Location: Scuola Leonardo da Vinci Turin is located in one of the choicest locations in the city, in the Piazza San Carlo, next to the famous Caffè Torino. The school is housed in the Palazzo Turinetti di Pertengo; students step out the door and they are in the very centre of Turin. From there, almost all the major attractions of the city can be visited on foot: the Egyptian Museum; the Mole Antonelli; Piazza Castello and the Palazzo Madama; Turin’s Royal Palace; and Saint John the Baptist Cathedral, home to the Holy Shroud of Turin; are all within walking distance. The Via Roma, with its high-end shops, goes directly from the Piazza San Carlo to the Porta Nuova train and subway station in less than 10 minutes.

The school: Scuola Leonardo da Vinci has excellent facilities and they strive to keep a school where students can feel welcome and at home. It is an authorised examination centre for the "Florence" exams of the Italian Academy of Language (AIL) and the CILS exams of the University for foreigners of Siena. They offer Intensive Italian courses, language and culture programmes which include art history, and modern day Italy, as well as their 50+ Dolce Vita programme.

To take part in the course students must have Italian origins, proven by a document attesting the Italian citizenship of the student or the parents/ancestors.

Course Includes:
4 daily Italian language group lessons with students of different nationalities (students join the general group language courses at their level).
6 weekly lessons on selected days with the following programme:

  • History of the Italian emigration,
  • Analysis of the region and the place where the student's ancestors started their
    journey,
  • Study of the dialect spoken in the region of origin,
  • Research on the origins of the student’s surname with the help of the teacher,
  • Planning the visit to the place of origin of the student’s family.

    This course will take place even with only 1 participant: in such cases, instead of the 6 classes specific to the programme, the student will have 3 private lessons per week covering the same material.

Week 1:

The front desk was AMAZING, and front desk, helped a lot with Questura, document problems, printing and submitting certificates.

“Chairs are extremely uncomfortable, sitting on hard surface for 4-5 hours for 8 months was a painful experience.

Certificates unfortunately cannot be used for CV or jobs, but still do their part for education purposes.

Material is very good grammatically and for study purposes but a little outdated in terms of examples and stories and in some cases topics were a little uncomfortable.”

“The course was quite intense with homework every evening except Friday. There were also outings and trips. I found myself exhausted a few times. However I do not know how this could be improved.”

Just a gentle warning to be careful of bags and things that they carry. My friends wallet and phone were stolen on the crowded number 4 tram at 6pm. Afterwards we were told that it is a particularly dangerous route.

Otherwise, some people don't understand so much and ask the same-speakers in their mother tongue to translate. It's a bit of an unfortunate situation. This is my third course. “The school has a very warm and friendly atmosphere, with fun social activities to get to know each other. The teachers are very good, informal and have a lot of patience. They will gladly answer all your questions after class or during the breaks.”
Insider tip: “The apericena is a very good way to get to know the other students and make new friends. Also if you are interested in buying more books on Italian language or grammar, the school sells a lot of different books for all levels. The coffee-machine in the school is fine but for really good coffee you should go to the bar just around the corner called 'CAFFETTERIA PRESIDENT' in via Pastrengo. There they have great coffee and hot chocolate but also lunch if you're having a long day at school!”

"A very very nice Hostess worked 8-8pm daily…too difficult for her to organize dinners, especially because she often had plans to go out/meet her friends at 9:30pm or so.
