What we dislike about the school
- Lessons are 45 minutes long, which is shorter than in other schools.
Location: EC English London is located in the cosmopolitan and historic English capital city of London. Housed in the trendy neighbourhood of Islington, known for its eateries, local pubs and community feel. EC English London is a 2-minute walk from Angel Tube Station, which is a central station on the well connected Northern Line. St Pancras International Train Station is a 20-minute walk from the school entrance. Students have several of the city's attractions within walking distance including Russell Square, the British Museum, the Charles Dickens Museum and the British Library. The centre of the capital is only a short trip using public transportation ensuring that Buckingham Palace, The National Gallery, Big Ben and Westminster Abbey can all be visited easily. The school is within easy reach of all London's international airports.
School facilities: The facilities within EC London are of a very high standard, offering everything a student may need to feel comfortable inside and outside of the classrooms. All classrooms are equipped with electronic whiteboards, air conditioning, heating and ample natural light to create an optimal learning environment. The school's facilities include interactive TV’s, a library, a self-study area and a student lounge.
Course selection: At EC English the courses available for students include English for Work, Exam Preparation (FCE, CAE, CPE, IELTS) and English in the City along with longer duration courses such as Academic Semester or year programmes.
Accommodation: EC London can assist with accommodation in Homestay and Residence facilities. Meal plans and double room facilities for students travelling together are also available.
What makes the school special: EC English has a number of interesting extras included with the course: Free Access to Microsoft Office for the duration of the course; Orange Carpet Experience; extra language workshops and activities and access to MyEC from booking.

This includes negotiations, management, HR, branding, promotional strategies, project management, business ethics, giving presentations, and preparing for interviews. “The staff in general is friendly, teachers were able to motivate us, and the classes were dynamic.”
“Despite the good will of all the staff, the first day was a bit chaotic, and as a result the lesson was cut short. Another point of contention was the mix of age groups in a course that was theoretically for students aged 30+. For example, in some classes of 13 students in total, 8 of them were 18 years old.”

“I attended the Advanced & Business course and was delighted. The teachers were very open and friendly, and the topics covered were extremely topical. My fellow students, who came from very different parts of the world, were also extremely friendly and communicative. Some of them had already been studying there for 3-4 months and were also very happy. I can definitely recommend the school to others.”
“The only downside is that the rooms can be a little chilly in winter. However, I suspect that this is generally due to the fact that the room temperature in England is kept somewhat lower.”

“The lessons are very communicative and entertaining. You often work together in small groups or in pairs and therefore get to talk a lot. Everything was well organised and the teachers were very nice and funny.”
“The location in the Angel district is actually good. There are several shops, restaurants and grocery shops in the immediate vicinity. However, the school building itself is cramped, spread over 5 floors and confusing. It is not air-conditioned and is located on the main road with a lot of noise. It is therefore not recommended in summer.”

"Very good in general, practical and not very noisy. The only downside was the small bathroom.

"The service at reception is not up to the standard of a typical hotel. For many questions, you get the answer: ‘Ask your school.’ In addition, there was a kettle in some rooms, for example, but not in others - even though all the guests belonged to the same school. The room is basically equipped with everything you need (except a TV - after all, this is where you study).

Nationals from Canada do not require a visa to study short term courses up to 180 days. A valid passport and an ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) is required to enter the UK. The application for the ETA is done online https://www.gov.uk/guidance/apply-for-an-electronic-travel-authorisation-eta. The answer is expected within 3 working days, costing GBP 16. The ETA allows multiple entries in the country for up to 6 months for a maximum of 2 years or until the passport used when applying expires.
