Insider tips about what future students should not miss
One should not expect to have a big share of speaking activities in class. You will learn quite a bit of grammar and vocabulary but you won't get a lot of active speaking experience. The teachers are nice and helpful but oldfashioned in their methodology and not very willing to change their approaches. I was in an intermediate group, so maybe beginner classes are different.
Other comments
I didn't take any individual classes, so depending on the teacher and the teaching situation things might be different from what I described. The front-desk man was very helpful to get extra information on bus-connections and schedules. Since this was not my first time in Lisbon I only participated in two extra-activities which were not satisfying. The program was mostly interesting for people who didn't know Lisbon at all- so it covered a lot of the typical tourist-spots.

I found the school a really interesting and lively environment, thanks to the different nationalities of the students. It was a great cultural experience and the fact that we were all speaking different languages forced us to communicate in portuguese, immediately using the new knowledge we were learning at lessons. Teachers are simply amazing!!

If you feel you are not in an adequate level, you must be persistent and self advocate in order to change, little student support in this matter.
Other comments
In general, Portugal has only recently begun developing its portuguese as a second language methodology. The texts are so-so... CIAL is, in my opinion, your best bet in language courses since its on the pioneering edge, atleast in Portugal. Brasil is another option, they have more experience, but obviously the language is different.

One area school could improve is student support. I asked, in my application, for a non-smoking home. They initially placed me with a chain smoker. In their favor, they immediately found me another home, where the woman was wonderful, and we will probably always be friends.

I think it would be very important if I knew before, what my previous knowledge had to be like in order to be able to follow the course. I did a VHS course before I started the language course at this school and after the level test I have been placed in a course, which has started two weeks ago. My previous knowledge was not enough for this course, which led to the fact that I was not really motivated. The course has been so much fun. If I would have been in this course right from the start, it would have been certainly better.
