The main goal of International House’s General English course is to enable you to have confidence when you’re out and about in the real world using English, across as wide a variety of situations as possible. This course is particularly popular with those who are staying in Malta for holiday purposes and would like to improve their level during their stay. Even so, the General course would be appropriate for learners in almost any kind of situation and is not specialised in any particular direction.

In addition to all of the grammar and vocabulary study that you will be undertaking, International House also believes that you learn best by producing language yourself in a communicative context. For this reason, you will also be exposed to a range of activities related to role plays, debates, and free speaking. Something missing from many English courses is preparation for comprehending different accents within the same language, but this is also covered in the programme - contributing to your general preparedness when using English.

Students studying 24 weeks or more, in the morning, they can be placed in the morning, afternoon or evening depending on availability.

Course starts every six weeks.

There are three one-week holidays throughout the year for this programme: 22.06-26.06, 21.09-25.09, 21.12-01.01

Compulsory extra charges:

• Accommodation service fee: EUR 25 per week.

All participants in the General course will start off taking a level test that is intended to make sure that all students are placed in a group that will be appropriately challenging and stimulating for their English language skill development. Each lesson lasts 45 minutes, which is the ideal time for introducing a topic and performing some high-quality work related to that subject.

The maximum number of students at any time is 12, ensuring that learners feel comfortable speaking in English to their group, and asking their teacher for any extra help. The groups are typically smaller than those of the summer months.

Although this rarely happens, should there be only one student in class, the lessons will be reduced by 50% and the student will have one-to-one sessions instead at no extra cost since the teacher will focus solely on his/her needs.

It includes General English 20 and Conversation 10 group courses.

This course consists of the standard English course and 10 workshop lessons focused on business English. This is only available for a duration of one week. Students are taught English specific to the business environment.

This course is 20 lessons per week of Standard English lessons, and 10 lessons of IELTS exam preparation.

The classes take place in mornings as well as afternoons, and take an approach that simultaneously develops the four main pillars of language study: Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing. You will have 4 Special Interest Lessons per week, which allow you to study specifically those topics which are most relevant to you and your goals.

It’s not all hard work with EF though, because you’ll also have access to their very own Beach Club, and the school occasionally organises group trips to locations such as Gozo, Sicily and Comino’s Blue Lagoon

This course is ideal for students who want to learn a language as fast as possible. Course tuition is structured as follows: 16 General language lessons, 4 project sessions, 10 special interest lessons and 2 lecture sessions each week. Course materials are not included in the price.
