Salerno ratings & opinions
How our students rated their experience in Salerno
What our students said about Salerno
Salerno feels safe and has a beautiful Old City. The beach closest to the school (Santa Teresa?) is ok, but a bit dirty and frequented by rather dodgy people. But there are nicer beaches to the east of the city center, and the beaches of the Amalfi coast can be easily reached by ferries ('traghetti') or by bus. The problem with the public buses is that they don't stick to the schedule, and especially in the evenings, there's a risk that they never show up (this happened to me and several other students at the Accademia Italiana in various places on the Amalfi coast).
Austria
A countryside town with a limited number of cultural activities. Museums are not interesting, but at least they are cheap or free. Some monuments are also free so you can spend a few days. It is surprisingly clean for a city in the South of Italy. But the city centre is not very well preserved. It is safe city and the natural environment is nice. If you want to move around, there are enough places to visit around.
Spain
Authentic Italian old town with locals. Fortunately, tourism is not over-present, but there are still plenty of opportunities for things to do. Transport hub for excursions to the Amalfi Coast.
Germany
It is an interesting and touristic city without suffering of "mass tourism". It is a strategic point to visit both the Amalfi Coast and other places of interest such as Pompeii or Naples.
Spain
The city is a lovely place to do a course. It has great transport links to get there and it's not too touristy but enough that there are plenty of museums etc.
New Zealand
Salerno was really great. Unfortunately, there are only a few beaches nearby, which are also moderately good, but otherwise a beautiful city.
Germany
Welcoming, excellent quality of life, good places to eat, very friendly people, and close to many beautiful sightseeings.
Brazil
Very pleasant town, next to the sea. It is easy to walk around and has a multitude of restaurants, bars, shops, etc.
Spain
If you have a room in the old town: more Italy is not possible (la dolce vita).
Austria
Good starting point for the Amalfi Coast, Paestum, Caserta and Naples!
Austria
Salerno is a nice, well-organized town with very friendly people.
Netherlands
It's a nice city, but I miss all kinds of tourist information.
Sweden

27 January 2020
Course: Standard 20 - 1 week
Student age: 52 years

The staff, they are all friendly and competent. Teachers (mostly women) are patient and understanding and they seem competent and motivated. Time flies in class (2 hours, break, 1 hour) and there are quite a few social activities in the afternoon. But these activities are enough for a month. If you intend to stay longer, you will finish all the activities.
It could be refurbished, especially the toilets. Classes can hold up to 10 people but with all the material it is hard to fit 10 people in there. I think they should only place 5 o 6 adults in each class. Chairs and tables need to be changed, and they should paint the walls and change the lights. The decorations seems old.
The staff is so nice and so competent that the rest is not that important. The general lounge is a bit empty.

17 September 2019
Course: Standard 20 - 1 week

What I liked most about the school: the location, the teachers and the helpful administrative staff
The teachers are great but the (presumably management-imposed?) focus on grammar rather than on specific topic-centered vocabulary seems a bit outdated to me.

I would highly recommend it

16 April 2018
Course: Standard 20 - 2 weeks
Student age: 45 years

The school had a large number of students of various ages when I was there in October. As a result, there were classes for all levels of Italian, and there were many activities organised by the school in addition to the classes. Teaching was of a high quality. The school organised visits to Pompeii, various parts of the Amalfi Coast and other places of interest both during the week and on Saturdays.
A very good school, particularly suited to people who wish to combine improving their Italian with having an excellent holiday.
