What our students said about Cambridge

It is a wonderful place. First of all, it is very safe. The people are polite and generous, and the overall atmosphere is more economically well off than in other cities. It is a moderately small, rural town, but when it comes to shopping, there are many upscale and renowned stores, probably due to the large number of tourists. The old town center is spectacular. However, it is not the most exciting or glamorous city. You can get to London in an hour by train, so it would be nice to visit from time to time.

A beautiful city with many historic buildings (churches, colleges, city centre, churches, museums) and a very nice botanical garden. The city has several city parks and you can get out into nature very quickly.

One of the most beautiful cities I know, a MUST for anyone who appreciates beauty, a cultivated cosmopolitan atmosphere with excellent food and fabulous leisure facilities (sports, culture, cafés, etc.).

I can't judge the nightlife, as I also studied in the evening. For cycling ok, it's all flat. Traffic pretty considerate. Cycle paths great. Cambridge as a city ok, certainly not my preferred city.

Cambridge is a wonderful city. I commute there from Peterborough by national express so I do not have much experience of some stuff but if I could I would live in Cambridge permanently.

I think is a very nice city, not so big, but just to know it and live it. Easy to be explored on foot or by bike. Full of clubs and places to eat or drink something with friends.

Small but charming city with things to do. I imagine that for very long periods, 5-6 months it is too small for you but you always have the train to escape to another city.

Museums, collages, churches. I would like to mention Daxfort air museum which i guess is not a part of Cambridge even if it is close to it but i was there and i loved it.

Q&A - Questions and answers about Cambridge

  • It is not compulsory for adults to attend classes. For children, you can book English lessons only or English lessons + activities (if you already have accommodation), or the complete package including accommodation, but please note that the school will only provide accommodation for your child and parents will have to find their own.
    Rubén De Haro, LanguageCourse.Net - Jul 31, 2023
  • At the time of writing, LSI and Cambridge Academy of English offer English programmes in the summer for a 10-year-old student.
    Ana Carolina Dos Santos, LanguageCourse.Net - Jul 03, 2023
  • Schools offer different types of General English courses, with a greater or lesser daily teaching load, exam preparation courses, business courses... The main thing to bear in mind when choosing a course is the main purpose of your trip, as it is different if you just want to brush up on your ideas or if your intention is to prepare for an exam, for example, for the IELTS or CAE.

As a general rule, most students book a General English course. These classes are open to everyone and, as the name says, are the industry standard, covering a bit of everything: speaking, grammar, vocabulary, reading and listening skills. They are a particularly good option for students at a lower level who are still working to establish a solid language base, and also for people who are looking for a good course but still want to enjoy their free time.

    Rubén De Haro, LanguageCourse.Net - Mar 22, 2023
  • There are many English language schools in Cambridge, but we do not work with all of them, although we provide information on all of them to guide our visitors to the full range of language course options available there.
    Rubén De Haro, LanguageCourse.Net - Mar 22, 2023
  • Most of our junior courses are throughout the summer, but some schools run them all year round. For instance, Sir George Camp (14-17 years old) offered by the school Studio Cambridge, runs during the academic year: from January to June and from August to December.
    Irina Zotova, LanguageCourse.Net - Nov 11, 2022
  • Absolutely, the accommodation can be arranged regardless the language level, as long as there's space for all the members of the family, you can stay in the same accommodation and practice the language at different levels.

  • Yes, trains from King's Cross station in London to Cambridge typically leave frequently. There are regular direct services provided by Great Northern and Thameslink, usually departing every 30 minutes or so during peak times and roughly every hour during off-peak times. The journey usually takes about 50 minutes to 1 hour and 15 minutes, depending on the specific service.

For the most accurate and up-to-date schedule, it's best to check the National Rail Enquiries website or the respective train operators' websites.
Madly Simba, Language Travel Consultant from LanguageCourse.Net - Jul 04, 2024
  • We offer junior programmes that always come in an all-inclusive package: 15-20 weekly group lessons + a rich programme of extra-curricular activities and room and board, in a student residence or host family according to your preferences. Flights are organised independently by the students, but schools almost always provide an airport transfer service. A minimum of 7 students are required for group bookings.
